As the global supply chain gears up for the traditionally chaotic fourth quarter, procurement managers in the animal nutrition sector face a closing window to optimize their insect feed logistics. While trans-Pacific and Asia-to-Europe ocean freight rates have shown signs of stabilizing in recent weeks, vessel space will inevitably tighten as the holiday rush approaches.

For bulk ingredients like mechanically defatted insect meal and whole dried insects, typically shipped in 1-ton FIBC bulk bags or high-volume standard containers, delayed bookings can result in severe production line bottlenecks.

IIR Analyst Take: “Waiting until late October to finalize Q4 and Q1 2027 bulk orders is a high-risk strategy,” warns the IIR sourcing team. The climate-controlled warehousing required for high-fat insect ingredients (like BSFL or full-fat mealworm meal) means sitting at port delays can compromise product quality and spike Peroxide Values (PV).

We strongly advise formulators and feed millers to audit their Asian supplier networks immediately and lock in shipment schedules for November and December to guarantee uninterrupted commercial production.
